Description

Echinacea, commonly called Purple coneflower, is a genus of nine species of herbaceous plants in the Family Asteraceae.  The plants have large showy heads of composite flowers, blooming from early to late summer.

The flowers are daisy-like and usually mauve, purple or pink. Paler garden forms are also available. They are fully hardy, and will prefer a sunny position with humus-rich, moist but well drained soil. You can propagate by division or root cuttings in the spring.
