Description

This genus consists of small perennials, which are useful for rock gardens and mixed borders, and some are good in alpine houses. The flowers of half-hardy species are ideal for cutting, and are fully to half hardy, but you will need to protect the fully-hardy species under glass in the winter as they resent damp conditions. Grow in a sunny position with a little shelter, in fertile and very well drained soil. Propagation is by seeds in early or mid-spring or by softwood cuttings in spring.
