February Gardening Tips

NarcissusYour garden is gently starting to come alive, and you see the first signs of spring, the daffodils, narcissus and crocus are popping up. But, there is still the threat of cold spell ... and that threat will exist for a couple more months!

As the garden starts to come to life, so the jobs start to accumulate.

 

  • Flower Garden
    • If you have Winter Jasmine, then prune it once it finishes flowering.
    • Prune Ivy and other ornamental vines before they start their vigorous growth for the year.
  • Vegetable Garden
    • Time to start planting for Summer and autumn: Carrot, Leek, Radish and Turnip seeds and the brassicas.
  • Wildlife Garden
    • The birds are still hungry, keep those feeders topped up
  • Water Gardener
    • Now is a good time to cut back or thin out any rushes or grasses you have at the pond edge.
  •  General Tasks
    • The lawn can get quite compacted over the winter, where you find water standing, aerate the lawn with either an aerator, or a garden fork and some elbow grease.
