Description

This species will produce broad concave leaves, the sheathing bases of which will form a tight cylinder which is the part eaten. They will produce stalks throughout most of the winter and early spring. It is often better to start growing the seeds under glass in late winter. The soil will need a humus-rich organic material, compost or rotted manure. When the plants begin to mature they are usually blanched by mounding up dry soil around the stems.

This is a very popular variety producing thick green foliage.
