Description

There are about 4 to 6 species of colourful, tuberous-rooted, herbaceous perennials. They produce grass to strap-like hairy leaves. The flowers are white, pink, red or purple and bloom for long periods in summer. They are frost hardy and will require full sun with sandy, peaty soil with plenty of moisture in the summer. Propagation is by seeds or offsets in the spring.
